In the project we want to recreate the history of a small Jewish cemetery in Olawa District, alas forgotten by both the authorities and the residents. The necropolis is hidden deep in the woods, damaged by time and the people. That is why we aim to bring back the proper respect to this place together with the protection against vandalism.
Our main care is to make the locals realize the Judaism believes have lived here with all their customs and to show the historical and cultural importance of the place. We’ve contacted local authorities of the village near which the cemetery is located in order to (by their mediation) familiarize the inhabitants with Jewish culture, make a folder documenting its condition and its history and distribute it in schools, libraries and common rooms.
We’ve reached an unordinary place which was established over 200 years ago and we’ll do our best to learn about its fate.
However we find it particularly important to change stereotypes on Jewish culture, still very strange to us and teaching tolerance towards to people of different religions, including Jews.
What we do in the project
By analyzing the monuments of Jewish culture in Wrocław and in the vicinity we try to reconstruct basic Jewish values.
What we are going to do next
