Why we do this project
Until the Second World War our town was hosting a large Jewish community, which for over 300 years was an important part of the town structure.
What we do in the project
We plan to make interviews with senior inhabitants of our town, who knew Polish Jews personally before the war. We're going to look for more pictures presenting the social and scholar activities of Polish Jews of Łęczna. Finally we're going to distribute our newly acquired knowledge amongst our fellow students.
What are we proud of
We are especially proud of the fact, that we have an access to the large collection of iconographic archives, gathered by the former longtime teacher of our school, Stefania Pawlak. Fascinated by the history of Łęczna in the pre-war period, she was collecting relations and pictures, writing down the history of the city. We are also receiving old pictures from the inhabitants of Łęczna and the families tied to the city.
The picture on the cover of the educational materials repared by the Foundation for Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland also belongs to our collection. Its owner was a student of the Boleslaw Chrobry Primary School in Łęczna before the World War II.
