"To Bring Memory Back" edition 2007-2008

Who are we
Social Initiative Society EFFATA
What we do in the project
The main goal of the project is to recreate the history of Jewish community, which lived once in Piła.
We want to bring back the history of the destroyed synagogue and Jewish cemetery in Piła. Students and volunteers will realize the project on history lessons and extramural activities. They will try to find the matzevots which were removed from the cemetery and were probably used as foundations for the island park in Piła.
We expect around 20 participants, recruited from Middle and High Schools in Piła. Every 3 weeks we will be holding a meeting to discuss the matter and share the knowledge.
We will interview the senior citizens of Piła who remember the times before and after the World War Two. We will cooperate with the former members of the nonexistant Polish-Israeli Friendship Society. We will take care of the place where the synagogue and the cemetery once stood. We also plan to provide education on Jewish religion, histoiry and culture through a series of lectures in schools and in the gallery where the Society is located.
