At school we learned the elementary information and a historical outline of a Jewish calendar. Now we know how the years are counted and that the year is really counted from the date of the creation, in accordance with the age of biblical characters. We learned the names of the months, their length and their equivalents in Gregorian calendar. We have made also our own calendar shaped as two flowers fixed on connected stems. The first one has eight petals. On every one of them there is a list of days characteristic to the following individual Jewish months and their equivalents in Gregorian calendar (January-August). The stem is adorned with a leaf on which the year 5767 is written. The second flower is smaller – it has only four petals with Jewish months written on them together with the equivalents in Gregorian calendar (September-December). The leaf on the stem has the inscription for the incoming new year 5768.
It’s worth adding that every student of our school can see materials prepared by us. They are placed in a special glass case.
