2008-01-07 We saw the "Lemel and Cypa" movie - the students of the Middle School in Wasilkow

On December 11, 2007, the students of the Middle School in Wasilkow went to the faculty of History at the University of Bialystok to see a movie called “Lemel and Cypa”. The 25 minutes long movie, which tells the story of a pair of mentally challenged Jews, was created by the students of the Middle School in Ulanow (lubelskie province). The short movie concentrates on the mishaps of Cypa, to whom a matchmaker is trying to find a husband. The only problem is, that if the pair is supposed to be happy, the candidate must be at least as stupid as Cypa is. And it happens: one day the matchmaker was walking through the village when she saw a young man called Lemel sitting on the doorstep, weeping. He just ate the entire cake his mother made, and he was caught in the act by her cat. Now he was afraid that the cat will tell his mother what happened. The matchmaker knew immediately that she found the right man! This starts a series of funny events around this unusual pair. The movie was really interesting and easy to accept for youths, since it was made by our colleagues. There was also an extra, 10-minute movie from which we learned how “Lemel and Cypa” was made, and at the end we were invited for a little refreshment. It was really worth seeing, and if you are interested, visit the website www.szlak.uwb.edu.pl . Karolina Den, Class 1c
