Old Jewish cemetery in Zamosc on Partyzantow St. was established in 1588. On the cemetery there were buried Sephardic Jews who arrived to town from Spain and Portugal. The cemetery was filled in the end of 19th century and in 1907 it was decided to close it for burials. The cemetery was surrounded by a wall with wooden gate and nearby was the caretaker’s house. During World War II the Nazis used the matzevot to build pavements on Krasiskiego, Sienkiewicza and Lukasinskiego St. After the war the fence was taken away, on the terrain of the cemetery a playground and Culture Centre were built. The cemetery was 2.5 ha. New Jewish cemetery in Zamosc on Prosta St. was established in 1907. The cemetery was devastated during the occupation and after the war the terrain was built over. From regained matzevot a lapidarium was erected. The cemetery was 0.1 ha. Jewish Cemetery on Kosciuszki St. was established in 16th century. In the card is it described as an after-Orthodox cemetery, a Unitarian one. Only the gate remains today. The cemetery was 0.26 ha. More information on the cemeteries: |
