Project: To Save from Oblivion. The history of the cemetery in Ustrzyki Dolne
Pupils of the 3rd form of the Middle School No. 1 in Ustrzyki Dolne have decided to look after the Jewish cemetery in their town. Not only have they decided to look after the cemetery but also they wanted to explore its history.
Their first visit to the cemetery was in the autumn, in the spring they are planning another visit when they plan to start the cleaning.
Throughout the winter they were collecting information on the Jewish inhabitants of Ustrzyki Dolne, they plan to go back to work in the cemetery soon.
This is a short report they’ve sent us:

In the framework of our educational program "To Bring Memory Back", we have organised a meeting at the school with the Director of the Museum - Place of Memory in Belzec, Robert Kuwalek on the issue of the extermination of Jews in the Podkarpacie Region and in our area. We have received many valuable materials which will help us greatly in our further work on the educational program.

Lessons on Jewish symbols on matzevot and the religious observances connected with the burial of the deceased took place at the local Jewish cemetery. Staff from the Museum in Belzecran conducted the lessons.

We also started to co-operate with The Tourist Association "Bieszczady" from Ustrzyki Dolne, who have been trying to start work on the heritage of Jewish culture in our region. In spring we are planning to return to work back outside.
