Two months of preparations and rehearsals; 50 invitations written and sent to the guests – everything was done to appropriately entertain the participants of the Hanukkah evening. December 14th, 2006. The room is 100% full. The staff serves tasty potato pancakes and freshly baked donuts. Our homemade Hanukkiah proudly shines on the honorary place. The aroma of the stewed fruit drink and fresh coffee fills the room. The kids are running between the tables. The hosts welcome the guests and describe the genesis of the Hanukkah. The guests listen attentively; for many of them it is a first meeting with the Jewish culture. The Hebrew and Yiddish songs met with applause (everyone agree that both are very difficult languages), and the multimedia presentation and reportages are being watched with full attention. Everyone who had ever visited a Silesian house knows that our ladies of the house are famous for their cooking talents. That’s why every plate served this evening was appreciated by the female guests. Of course, all the recipes were distributed among the interested. For the smallest guests a Hanukkah coloring book contest was organized, and every little artist was awarded with sweets. As far as we know, there was some secret dreidel gambling for sweets organized in the corners of the room, but it cannot be officially confirmed. Some of the fathers present tried to register all the events of this wonderful evening with their video cameras. In one word, it was marvelous!
