2011-04-05 OPENING OF THE CENTER

On April 5th, 2011 the ceremony of the opening of the 'Synagogue' Center in Zamosc took place. The Renaissance synagogue was restored by the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland. The President of the Republic of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski assumed honorary patronage over the ceremony.

Among the honorable guests of the ceremony were: the representative of the President of the Republic of Poland Ms. Maria Ossolinska, members of the Board and Council of the Union of Jewish Communities in Poland with the Chief Rabbi of Poland Rabbi Michael Schudrich and the head of UJC Mr. Piotr Kadlčik, Ambassador David Peleg and the delegation of World Jewish Restitution Organization, member of the Knesseth Mr. Isaac Herzog, Ambassador of the State of Israel Mr. Zvi Rav-Ner, Ambassador of the United States of America Mr. Lee Feinstein, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway Mr. Enok Nygaard, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Mr. Rudiger Freiherr von Fritsch, Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany Professor Andrzej Kidyba, delegate of the Sephardic Jews Council in Israel Dr Shlomo Hizak, Bishop of the Lublin Archdiocese Mieczyslaw Cislo and Bishop of the Zamosc-Lubaczow Diocese Mariusz Leszczyński.

After the ceremony the conference 'History and Culture of the Jews in Zamosc and the Zamosc Region' began. The conference was co-organized by the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland and the Polish-Jewish Literature Studies of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin and lasted until April 7th, 2011.

Media Patronage over the opening of the 'Synagogue' Center was assumed by: Gazeta Wyborcza (Lublin edition), Radio Lublin and Midrasz magazine.

The Renaissance synagogue in Zamość was restored by the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland within the framework of the project 'Revitalization of the Renaissance synagogue in Zamosc for the needs of the Chassidic Route and the local community'. The project received a grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Financial Mechanism and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism.
