On April 3rd, 2012 at the ‘Synagogue’ Center of the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland an event summarizing the first year of the Center’s functioning was held. The Center was opened on April 5th, 2011.
The ceremony began with the presentation on events which took place at the ‘Synagogue’ Center during the first 12 months of its functioning, as well as on activities that will be implemented in the coming year. Afterwards guests listened to the lecture and watched multimedia presentation “The Old Town Synagogue in Zamosc – historical and symbolic significance”. This subject was presented by a member of the ‘Well of Memory’ Association, Krzysztof Banach. The meeting ended with a concert given by guitar and string quartets formed by students of the Karol Szymanowski State School of Music in Zamosc.
During the last 12 months 35 cultural and educational events took place at the ‘Synagogue’ Center and nearly 12 thousand people participated in them. Thanks to the Center visitors can learn about the history of the Jewish community which over several centuries took part in the shaping of the region’s intellectual, religious and cultural identity.
