2013-10-16 71st ANNIVERSARY OF THE GHETTO LIQUIDATION
This year marks the 71st anniversary of Operation Reinhard – action carried out by Germans between 1942 and 1943, which aim was the extermination of European Jewry. Its implementation began in March 1942 with deportations to death camp in Belżec, and later to camps in Sobibór, Treblinka and Majdanek. From the total number of 6 million victims of the Holocaust over 1,5 million Jews were murdered within the framework of Operation Reihard.
Operation Reinhard brought also the annihilation of the Jewish community of. Deportations from the town began in April 1942 and on October 16th, 1942 the ghetto underwent final liquidation.
