From June 29 to the end of August 2021, a unique exhibition "Out of Frame" will be presented at the "Synagogue" Center.
Rosa Luxemburg is a figure recognizable all over the world. Her large family stayed in the shadow of the great woman from Zamość. Although it was full of extraordinary characters, Róża's relatives remained out of the frame for decades. Now, this is changing.
Representation of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation in Poland in cooperation with the "Synagogue" Center of the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland has prepared an exhibition "Out of Frame. The family of the famous woman from Zamość", presented in Zamość synagogue on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Rosa Luxemburg. The exhibition presents Rosa's siblings born in Zamość, as well as nieces and nephews with Warsaw birth certificates
Members of this Jewish family stayed in close contacts with each other, lived Polish life, and their individual fates were connected to the history of Poland. At the exhibition we will see: a social worker who demanded the introduction of the universal social insurance system, a merchant issuing a professional medical magazine, a merchant who received high compensation from the Russian tsar for unjust imprisonment, a lawyer fighting for the women's rights in reborn Poland, a soldier of Piłsudski's legions murdered in Auschwitz, a volunteer in the 1920 war, shot in Katyn, wife of a pharmacist and her children who, because of their exile to Siberia, avoided death from the hands of the German fascists.
Nothing in this story is obvious.
The opening of the exhibition will take place on Thursday, July 8, 2021, at 6:00 pm at the "Synagogue" Center in Zamość.
