2017-06-26 Japanorama - exhibition of paintings

The "Synagogue" Center of the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland is pleased to invite you to an exhibition of paintings by Agnieszka Słodkowska titled "Japanorama."

Agnieszka Słodkowska said about her series of paintings:

"When I was young girl, I loved "Shogun" TV series. I was waiting for the next episode and, unlike my contemporaries, I was not a fan of "gaijin" (a foreigner played by Richard Chamberlain), but Mr. Toranagi, played by the great Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune. My fascination with Japan leasted for years; I have always been interested in Japanese art from the incredibly beautiful Ukiyo-e Hiroshige or Hokusaya, delicate sumi-e to the absolutely modern art created by such Japanese artists as Yayoi Kusama and Tadao Ando. The films of Kurosawa impressed me very deeply ("Ame agaru" what means "After the Rain" - the title of this movie is a name of one of my paintings) After many, many years, finally I was given a chance to see the Japan. The "Japanorama" cycle is the painted story of my two travels to Japan in April 2008 and November 2010. I was fascinated by the country of Blooming Cherry and I wanted to share "my" Japan, "portrayed" by me, with the viewer. The spectator will find here night-time views with colorful neons and ordinary street full of busy people, big metropolis with flyovers and quiet alleyways of the temples, sea landscapes or the flowering "sakura".

Agnieszka Słodkowska - born in 1973 in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski. She lives and works in Warsaw. Graduated the Fine Arts High School in Kielce.
