On June 19, 2009 Foundation for Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland signed the agreement with the Headquarters of Polish Prison Services. It concerns cooperation and organizing cleaning works on the Jewish cemeteries in Poland. Thanks to this agreement Foundation became the partner in the Polish and Israeli Prison Services project "Tikkun – Restoration".
According to the agreement Foundation helps each penitentiary to choose a Jewish cemetery to be cleaned and supports educational activities of the those institutions. We provide also educational materials both for prisoners, and officers, and organize lectures or workshops connected to Jewish tradition, culture, history or problems of ksenophobia or anti-Semitism.
Foundation takes care of conformity of the works on cemeteries to the Jewish religious law.
Project "Tikkun – Restoration" was established to preserve the chosen objects of Jewish heritage in Poland. So far there are 55 penitentiaries and prevetive custodies from all over the country. Some of them cooperate with Foundation in implementing the project. Cleaning works are underway and we are informing about each one of them in the "News" section.
