On the initiative of the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland the gate of the Jewish cemetery in Suwalki was repainted and repaired. The the keys are kept in Town Office at 1 Mickiewicza St.
Jewish cemetery in Suwalki was established in 1825. About 20 matzevot remain on its grounds and more were returned after the war and arranged into a lapidarium. In the 1980’s and the 1990’s the cemetery was renovated by the descendants of the Jews from Suwalki living in the US.
