On September 1st 2010 in Katowice a ceremony of giving a new hall of prayer the name of Rabbi Haskel Besser took place.
Rabbi Besser (1923-2010) was born in Katowice but has lived in New York since 1949. After 1989 he  became one of the main leaders of the renaissance of the Jewish life in Poland. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland. The ceremony was organized by the Jewish Religious Community of Katowice.
