On November 8th-10th, 2011 an international conference dedicated to the memory of Rabbi Max Joseph, Ph.D., rabbi of Slupsk over the period of 1902-1936, was held.
The opening was led by His Magnificence Professor Roman Drozd, Rector of the Pomeranian Academy in Slupsk, Professor Iryna Surina, Dean of the Faculty of Education and Philosophy, and Professor Hubert Mikolajczyk, Head of the Department of Philosophy. A special guest of the conference Amos Cohen, a grandson of Rabbi Max Joseph, presented a paper.
Thanks to the support of the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland and the Cultural Center of Slupsk, participants of the conference watched the movie “Powrót” (‘Home-coming’), produced by Jerzy Blicharski and Zdzislaw Pacholski. The film presents the fate of Professor Leslie Baruch Brent, who comes from Koszalin and is one of the few Pomeranian Jews who survived the World War II.
