January 27 was designated by the United Nations General Assembly as the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. In Warsaw the celebrations began at 2:30 PM at the Umschlagplatz Monument. Later that day, at 6:00 PM a roll call was held in Prozna St., during which the names of the victims of the Holocaust were read aloud. The ceremonies were organized by the Shalom Foundation and the City of Warsaw.
At 6:00 PM many citizens of Warsaw lit candles in their windows thus joining the “Lights of Memory” project.
