linia 2012-07-27 WARSAW

On July 27th, 2012 we witnessed the opening of the summer Olympic Games in London. This was also the 40th anniversary of the assassination of 11 Israeli Olympic team members during the Munich Olympics in 1972. The Jewish Community of Warsaw joined the Maccabi World Union initiative to commemorate the victims of this terrorist attack. The prayers and the names of the following 11 martyrs were read in two synagogues in Warsaw:

David Berger
Ze'ev Friedman
Yossef Gutfreund
Eliezer Halfin
Yossef Romano
Amitzur Shapira
Kehat Shorr
Mark Slavin
Andre Spitzer
Yakov Springer
Moshe Weinberg

We also recalled with gratitude the sacrifice of German Police Officer Anton Fliegerbauer who gave his life fighting the terrorists.

The prayers took place at:
1) Nozyk Synagogue (Twarda 6 Street) - just before shabbat - on Friday, July 27th at 7.45 pm
2) Ec Chaim Synagogue (Centre for Progressive Judaism - Aleje Jerozolimskie 53, floor IV) - on
Sunday, July 29th at 6 pm.
