2015-01-22 WARSAW-ATLANTA
It is with great pleasure that the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland (FODZ) announces that an agreement has been signed with The Matzevah Foundation, Inc., an Atlanta, Georgia-based non-profit organization that has been working hard for the last several years doing organized clean-up projects, repairs, and fencing in Jewish cemeteries in Poland, some of which belonging to or managed by FODZ. Furthermore, since 2012, FODZ and The Matzevah Foundation have been working closely together in the Jewish cemetery of Zambrów, not only cleaning, repairing, and protecting the site, but also commemorating those who suffered and died during the Holocaust.
The Zambrów Jewish cemetery, like so many in Poland, suffered extensive destruction during the War and damaging neglect afterward. Although the cemetery site is more than 2.6 hectares and Jews lived in Zambrów for generations (making up more than half the town's population), only about 100 Jewish headstones remain today. » back See also galeries: ZAMBROW.
