On February 2, 2021, Rabbi Isaac Schapira, Founder and President of the European Jewish Cemeteries Initiative (ESJF); Rabbi Michael Schudrich, Chief Rabbi of Poland and representative of FODZ participated in a session of the City Council of Kazimierz Dolny (Kuzmir) devoted, inter alia, to the development of a common position of the Jewish side and local authorities on the dignified maintenance of the old Jewish cemetery, located at Lublin street. The proceedings of this session allowed to present the position of the Jewish side regarding the preservation of the cemetery area and its opening to visitors coming to Kazimierz Dolny, representing Jewish communities. Councilors expressed their readiness to continue discussions with representatives of the Jewish side leading to a decision on the preservation and commemoration of the cemetery area, which would be in line with the Halacha. It was also announced that further, direct talks would be conducted in Kazimierz Dolny on this matter as soon as possible, which was conditioned by the circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
