The Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland received with concern information indicating that the symbolic gate leading to the area of the Jewish cemetery in Nasielsk, which was unveiled in May 2022, was damaged. This gate is not only a symbolic commemoration of the former Jewish community of Nasielsk, which co-created a rich social, religious and cultural landscape of this town and its surroundings. It is an expression of joint actions taken by representatives of many communities, including the inhabitants of Nasielsk, for the sake of a climate of understanding and reconciliation.
Condemning the perpetrators of this thoughtless act of vandalism, we also express our thanks to the Mayor, Mr. Bogdan Ruszkowski for taking decisive steps to remove the damage and prevent the recurrence of a similar situation in the future. At the same time, we appeal to the residents of Nasielsk not only to condemn the perpetrators of vandalism, but also to continue the activities initiated for education, commemoration and reconciliation.
