linia 2025-07-29 Łęczna - Renovation of the Synagogue

The City of Łęczna will receive PLN 11,372,632.69 for the project “Revitalization of the Old Town in Łęczna – Phase III.” This project will include the renovation of the local synagogue and its adaptation into an educational and cultural center, tentatively titled the “Center for Intercultural Dialogue.” The work will be financed by the Lublin Voivodeship Board.

The synagogue in Łęczna was built in 1655. After World War II, the building housed the Regional Museum. Since 2014, the building has been unused, resulting in its ongoing deterioration.

The project involves adapting the former synagogue to serve as a museum and educational center. The scope of planned activities includes conservation and restoration work that will improve the building's technical condition. The purchase of equipment that will improve the building's functionality and the development of the surrounding area is also planned. The synagogue will house a museum dedicated to local Jews and will host cultural events. The revitalized synagogue will contribute to the activation and integration of residents and increase the city's tourist appeal.

The synagogue is owned by the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage and has been lent to the City of Łęczna for 60 years.

We would like to thank everyone involved in raising funds, including Mayor Leszek Włodarski and staff of the Łęczna municipality, members of the City Council, and Piotr Puchta, Director of the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland from 2019 to 2025.
