The Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly issued a resolution in which it recommends to member states across the continent to undertake more effective ways of fighting anti-Semitism in all its forms. The deputies noted that the rise of anti-Semitism is a considerable threat to democracy. The resolution declares that no member state is immune to this phenomenon. In Council’s opinion we are facing an escalation of anti-Semitic attitudes in many countries. The Council appealed to the governments of member states to prosecute public figures making anti-Semitic statements. This applies also to the political parties and organizations putting forward anti-Semitic arguments in its debates. According to the resolution, any public financing for such groups should be blocked. The governments of the member states should pay special attention to the authors of the Internet pages, who openly propagate Anti-Semitism and hatred with impunity. The Council also called for the permanent information campaigns throughout Europe.
