As part of the
Chassidic Route Project, the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland established cooperation with the town officials of
Sanok (podkarpackie province) for the restoration of the Jewish cemetery located on Kiczura St. in Sanok.
The cemetery, called “new one” (to mark the difference between an “old one”, established in 18th century), was created in 19th century. There are few dozen matzevot remaining, dating back to 19th and the beginning of 20th centuries. During the World War II the Germans executed over 600 Jews from Sanok and surrounding area on the cemetery grounds.
