We sadly inform you of another act of vandalism which struck a Jewish cemetery. This time it was the famous necropolis in Bialystok, located at Wschodnia St., and the monument commemorating the Jewish community located at Zabia St. On August 13, 2007, Nazi symbols and slogans were painted on the cemetery fence and the matzevot, and the table on the memorial was covered with paint. Local media, including Gazeta Wyborcza, reacted immediately; thanks to their intervention and the determined stance of the Bialystok authorities the Nazi slogans were immediately removed.
The Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland informed local police of this act of crime; the investigation is under way.
