We are glad to inform you that a memorial tablet commemorating the Jewish society of Mszczonow (mazowieckie province) was installed by the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland at the cemetery in Mszczonow. The tablet funded by the Foundation was placed on one of the supporting pillars.
The following inscription in Polish, Hebrew and English was carved on the tablet:
The Jews settled in Mszczonow (Amshinov) in the 18th century. During the 19th century they made up half of the town’s population, contributing to its economic and cultural development. Mszczonow was also home of the famous Chassidic dynasty of Amshinov. In 1921 2188 Jews lived in the town, making up 43% of the total population. In September 1939 Mszczonow was seized by the Germans who immediately started persecuting local Jews. In February 1941 the German Nazis moved the Mszczonow Jews to the Warsaw Ghetto. The majority of them were killed in the Treblinka extermination camp. In memory of the Jewish inhabitants of Mszczonow, murdered during the Holocaust by the German Nazis.
