On August the 8th a representative of the Foundation attended a meeting “Jewish traces in Opole and Wroclaw” which finalized a Polish-German-Israeli project aimed to encourage young people from Poland, Germany and Israel to discover the history of the Silesian Jews. Youths participating in the project, among other things, cleaned up the Jewish cemetery in Opole.
During the meeting the youths presented a pantomime showing the history of the Opole Jews since the establishment of the Opole community, through the erection of the synagogue and a presentation of the most distinguished members of the Jewish community (rabbi Leo Baeck, a famous explorer Emin Pasza and the Friedlander family) to the Holocaust.
During the meeting representatives of the Israeli Embassy in Poland granted Mr. Stefan Komarnicki from Opole the title of the Righteous Among the Nations. The meeting was organized by Jugend Forum Młodych, acting in cooperation with the German Educational Society in Opole and the Aktion Suhnezeichen Friedensdienste Society from Berlin, Edith Stein Society from Wrocław, the Embassy of Israel in Poland and the World Union of Jewish Students. It was attended by representatives of the local authorities: the Opole Voivode, the Marshall of the Opole Voivodeship and the vice-consul of the Republic of Germany in Opole.
