During the building works carried out in Radom, the workers found underground a number of richly polychromed matzevot. For a first time in many years such a large number of tombstones with perfectly preserved colours was found in Poland; an estimated number of tombstones in this location is 100.
Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland immediately took actions to protect the historical tombstones. In cooperation with the local branch of the Monument Conservator Office and the building workers, the Foundation will assure that the matzevot will be given proper treatment and will be transported to the Jewish cemetery in Radom.
