linia 2008-11-25 RESEARCH ON THE ATTITUDES. MILEJCZYCE

Since the end of October, 2008, the Community Culture Center in Milejczyce is hosting  a series of meetings with local youths about the multicultural past of the town. The meetings are being organized by the Culture Center staff in cooperation  with the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland. The goal is to gather as much souvenirs of the past as possible and to bring back the memories of the prewar peaceful coexistence of the Roman Catholics, Orthodox Catholics and Jews of Milejczyce. In the nearest future a meeting will be organized between youths and senior citizens of the town, who still carry memories of their Jewish neighbors, of their friendship, common work and mutual help.

Young people participating in the meetings learn the history of Milejczyce, search for the material souvenirs and pictures from the past. Pictures and documents are scanned – some of them may be seen on POLIN portal www.polin.org.pl. The final effect of their work will be a permanent exhibition of the gathered material in the building of the Center.

The action is being realized within the frames of the
'Research on the Attitude Towards Jews and Their Heritage. Cooperation with Local Partners in Selected 15 Towns. Education for Tolerance' program, supported by the Batory Foundation.
