We are happy to inform that the Community Culture Center in Przerosl (podlaskie province) since November 2008 hosts a youth movie club 'Save From Oblivion'. The goal of the club is to document memories of senior citizens of Przerosl and nearby Pawlowka. The students, members of the club from the above towns, visit their neighbors with a video camera and conduct interviews about prewar times, war and occupation. Many relations concern the Jewish community of Przerosl, which formed an important percent of inhabitants of the town before the war. Young filmmakers also take pictures of the souvenirs kept by senior citizens - old pictures and documents.
The process of interview gathering will be finished at the break between August and September 2009. The material will be used to make a movie which will be included in the collection of the school libraries in Przerosl and Pawlowka. Its fragments will also be available at POLIN-Polish Jews Heritage web portal www.polin.org.pl created by the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland. The project is being supported by the Post-Accession Rural Support Project.
Cooperation between the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland and the Community Culture Center in Przerosl was started within the frames of the 'Research on the Attitude Towards Jews and Their Heritage. Cooperation with Local Partners in Selected 15 Towns. Education for Tolerance' program, supported by the Batory Foundation.
