2008-12-16 RADOM
On December 15, 2008, a meeting of the initiators of the building of a monument in memory of the Jews from Radom took place in the local Town Office. Among those gathered to discuss the details of the project were: the President of Radom, representatives of Polish and Israeli Correctional Services, Head Rabbi of Poland and a representative of the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland. The monument is scheduled to be erected in 2009 at the Jewish cemetery in Radom at Towarowa St. The Town Office of Radom came up with the idea of a monument 5 years ago; a project was also created at the time, but was never realized. In 2008, the representatives of the cooperating Polish and Israeli Correctional Services took over the project, initiated a meeting between town authorities, the Rabbi and the Foundation and declared their willingness for realizing the project. During the meeting the project was accepted and tasks were shared amongst the parties involved. The monument will have a shape of a semi-round wall made of reinforced concrete, 10 meters long and 4 meters high, with authentic matzevot, recently discovered in Radom during the road works, included in its structure. The wall will be standing on an artificial sand bank, which will secure the graves beneath.
