We are happy to inform that the Lezajsk Town Council adopted a resolution which allows the construction of the Jewish Culture Center in Studzienna St. The Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland is a partner of the project.

The Jewish cemetery in Lezajsk, with a joint area of 2,06 ha, is one of the most important Jewish necropolis in Poland. Funded in 18th century, the cemetery is a resting place of the world famous Tzaddik Elimelech of Lezajsk, student of the Great Maggid Dow Ber of Międzyrzecze. Elimelech was one of the most significant Tzadikks in the history of Judaism, and one of the creators of the Chassidic movement. Thanks to his activity Lezajsk has become one of the most active centers of Chassidism in Europe. Even today the Tzaddik’s grave is visited every year by Jewish pilgrims from all parts of the world. The number of visitors is estimated at over 10 thousands per year, most of them come to the Tzaddik’s grave on the anniversary of his death.
