The night between November 9 and November 10, 2009, marked the 71th anniversary of the Kristallnacht, the largest pogrom of Jews in Nazi Germany.
91 Jews were murdered, hundreds of synagogues were damaged or burned, 7000-7500 Jewish shops and 29 market halls were destroyed, 171 private Jewish-owned houses were demolished, nearly all Jewish cemeteries were desecrated and 20-20 thousand German Jews were imprisoned in concentration camps.
November 9 is also the International Day Against Fascism and Anti-Semitism.
