As part of the activities of the Coalition of Guardians of Jewish Cemeteries in Poland, on the initiative of a local volunteer, Mr. Kazimierz Szczechura, in recent days, an action was carried out to clean up the area of the new Jewish cemetery in Łomża, located on Boczna Street. The new Jewish cemetery was functioning until the Holocaust. The ancestors of one of Israel's former presidents, Chaim Herzog as well as Isaac Herzog, who will take office as President of the State of Israel on July 9, 2021, were buried in this cemetery. More than 600 tombstones survived on the site of the cemetery, with an estimated 4,000 graves, according to estimates by Antoni Dudo of the Łomża Jewish Cemetery Foundation. The greatest concentration of tombstones occurs in the south-west. One may notice the division of its area into men's and women's quarters.
