On November 5, 2021, a solemn commemoration of the 79th anniversary of the Holocaust of the local Jewish community took place in the town of Orla, Podlasie Voivodship. Every year, in Poland, the main commemoration ceremonies for the Victims of the Holocaust take place on the premises of the former German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp Auschwitz-Birkenau and in Warsaw, at the monument to the Ghetto Heroes. Nevertheless, it is worth emphasizing and recognizing the memory of the victims of the Holocaust of Orla Jews, murdered during World War II by Nazi Germany, the organizer of which once again were: the Mayor of the Orla Commune, the Municipal Cultural Center, the Primary School in Orla and the Municipal Public Library. It is a measurable expression of the commitment of local authorities and residents to education and sensitization of future generations to the crime of the Holocaust. Without the memory of the murder of Orla Jews, Orla's identity would be incomplete today. Expressions of deep appreciation and gratitude are due to those who care for the local Jewish cemetery. Thanks to your initiative, from an object unknown or culturally alien, once used by a non-existent community, it has become a clear trace of collective memory, thanks to which the current inhabitants of Orla can not only honor the local Jews, but also fully experience the history of their town.
