linia 2022-07-01 Archaeological research works - Miła 18

Another round of archaeological research and excavations are currently underway, which are conducted in the former Warsaw Ghetto by the Warsaw Ghetto Museum together with a team of scientists from Christopher Newport University and the Aleksander Gieysztor Academy in Pułtusk – a branch of AFiB Vistula . The works are carried out on the municipal plot in the quarter of Miła – Dubois – Nisko – Karmelicka streets in Muranów. Here, where archaeologists dig until World War II, there was a tenement house with two addresses: Miła 18 and Muranowska 39. During the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in 1943 the bunker built under it housed the headquarters of the Jewish Combat Organization (ŻOB).  At the end of the uprising, ŻOB fighters were hiding in it, and then ŻOB fighters were killed, among them the commander of the ŻOB Mordechaj Anielewicz.  The Chief Rabbi of Poland Michael Schudrich was informed about the work. In the event of encountering human bones, we will immediately stop the work at the place where they were found – announces Dr. Jacek Konik.
