In July, 2006, 3 student camps organized by the Foundation for the Preservation of the Jewish Heritage in Poland took place in the Podkarpacie and Lubelszczyzna regions (Przemysl, Lesko, Uher). Their aim was to gather information for the “Jews in Poland” multimedia web portal that is being prepared by our Foundation.
We would like to express our highest gratitudeto all local institutions and the inhabitants of Podkarpacie and Lubelszczyzna, who helped the students in their research. Thanks to your help it was possible to reach over 80 localities in these regions.
Over 40 students of Universities from all over the country (Uniwersytet Jagiellonski, Politechnika Krakowska, Uniwersytet Slaski, Uniwersytet Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu, Uniwersytet Marii Sklodowskiej Curie w Lublinie, Uniwersytet Lodzki, Uniwersytet Wroclawski, Uniwersytet Warszawski) participated in the camps.
Students attended lectures given by experts in various fields of Jewish studies, and afterwards they did their individual research and were cataloguing monuments of Jewish heritage. Student’ reports and photographic documentation will soon be available.
Our partner in this project (and a co-organizer of the first camp) was the Institute of Geography of the Uniwersytet Jagiellonski (Cracow University). A Center for Jewish Studies of the Lodz University provided experts that supported the Lubelszczyzna camp.
Student camps were organized within the framework of the “Jews in Poland” web portal project, thanks to the financial support of the Task Force for International Cooperation on Holocaust Education, Remembrance and Research and the Ministry of Interior.
