On September 26, 2006, soldiers from the 1st Pomorska Logistics Brigade from Bydgoszcz, supervised by Marcin Dudek, a local leader co-operating with the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland within the framework of the “To Bring Memory Back” program, spent a day working on a Jewish cemetery in Barcin, protecting it from further desolation. The ground unevenness was filled with sand, provided by Lafarge Group. A 3-tons boulder, also provided by the Lafarge, was brought to the cemetery. In the near future a commemorative plaque will be fixed to it.Moreover, the northwestern part of the cemetery was fenced thanks to the Gołąbki Forest District, which provided the necessary materials. A day later the Barcin Middle School No.1 hosted a representative of the Rabbinic Commission, who gave a lecture on the Jewish burial rites, and the basics of Jewish faith. The lecture was acclaimed by both the students and the Headmistress of the school, who said she is looking forward to have more such events organized in Barcin.
