We cordially invite you to see the pictures of the Jewish cemetery in Rymanów, cleaned by the “Meeting Rymanów” Society in cooperation with the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland. Below is the text sent to us by the Society.
On 27th of October the members of the “Meeting Rymanów” Society have begun works on the cemetery in Rymanów, leading to the restoration of the military grave dating back to the First World War. Before the Second Word War this monument was a traditional meeting place for the Jewish inhabitants of Rymanów. It survived the turmoil of war in a very good condition but, as many other remains of the Jewish culture in Rymanów, was destroyed soon after the war. Today all that remains of the monument is a destroyed matzevot with traces of German scripture and the contours of 8 military graves. The entire ground was cleared by us from the growing plants, we also removed the loose stones and fallen trees. We have cleared a large path leading from the cemetery entrance to the monument. We decided to leave two beautiful hawthorn shrubs, which have grown on one of the monuments. Like the soldier’s graves, the also share a bond with the soil of Rymanów. Now the grave at least partially looks like it did in the pre-war time. The Society is gathering all documents, pictures, maps, and even memories of the monument. It will serve as a base for the projects of full restoration of the monument and the grave. We are supported by The Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland
, and the Austrian Red Cross, working on the restoration of the military graves from the First World War.
