On 7th of July 2005, on the 63rd anniversary of the liquidation of the Rzeszów Ghetto, at the old Jewish cemetery (today the Square of the Ghetto Victims) a ceremony of unveiling a memorial plague took place. The plague, shaped as a matzevot, is placed on a basalt boulder which was brought to the cemetery especially for that purpose. The inscription on the plague says: This area is a 16th century Jewish cemetery that was destroyed by the Nazis during the Second World War. In summer 1942 Jews were gathered here before being transported to death camps. After the ceremony of unveiling the guests marched from the Square to Staroniwa, along the way the Jews were led out of the ghetto on their way to death camp.
The ceremony, initiated by Mr. Mirosław Kędzior and Mr. Janusz Korbecki, was attended by the CEO of the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland.
