We are sorry to inform you that the synagogue in Rymanow (podkarpackie province) was damaged by an act of vandalism. Unknown perpetrators smashed the windows (recently installed by the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage) with stones. This was the second such act (the first one took place in April 2007). The Foundation informed the authorities about this act.
The synagogue in Rymanow is of the most interesting 17th century synagogues in Poland. An exceptional group of polychrome paintings, dating back to the 1920s was preserved in its interiors. In 2005 the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland, in cooperation with Congregation Menachem Zion from New York, carried out a reconstruction of the upper part of the walls and the roof of the synagogue.
