On October 1st 2005 scouts from the 9th Zielona Góra Scout Team “DUKT”, supervised by their leader, Mr. Leszek Masklak, cleaned up the area of the Zielona Góra Jewish cemetery. In June 2005 26 matzevot that had been discovered in a park adjoining the Zielona Góra Jewish cemetery were excavated and deposited in the pre-funeral house at the cemetery. The tombstones will be now cleaned and catalogued, and afterwards they will return to the pre-funeral house that will be opened for public. In gathering funds necessary for restoring the matzevot the Foundation is supported by the Province Monument Conservator, Ms. Barbara Bielinis-Kopeć. Other people engaged in saving the necropolis are: Mr. Jakub Łysakowski – a journalist working for Gazeta Wyborcza (Poland’s most popular everyday newspaper), a historian, Mr. Andrzej Kirmiel, together with his students from the Liceum Ekologiczne high school in Zielona Góra and Mr. Aleksander Stawnicki – a student of the Jagielloński University in Cracow.
