We cordially invite you to a lecture of a letter, recently sent to us from Tarłów. We are glad to see that there are still many people who do care about the remnants of Jewish culture in Poland.
“It was another of my bicycle trips. I was riding through a lovely countryside, passing by many beautiful places. Time was running out, as usually, and around me was the gold Polish autumn in its full splendor. Every single one of my trips is somehow connected with the history of Polish Jews. I look in every town for the places where they lived. The tourist guides are usually limited to the descriptions of the main square and the Catholic church which is located there. What I do, is to walk in the opposite direction and ask about the synagogue. And that’s what I did this time too. Near the main square, on a dirt road, I see the ruins of the synagogue, a romantic view, but I find it sad. In my home town, Kraśnik, the destroyed synagogue is slowly but continuously restored, much to my content. Here the ruins are nothing but a local waste dump. I did not take a picture of the interior, but one may find there every kind of rubbish existing. Regardless of my lack of time, I collected ten bags of empty vodka bottles and I carried them to the glass waste collection point. I couldn’t do anything more, the container was full and it was impossible to find another. I guess I’ll have to return there to finish the job. I would like to make a contact with someone really interested in saving this really beautiful building." » back See also galeries:
